Choosing the right abrasive metering valve
A metering valve is at the heart of every blast pot and regulates the amount of blast media in the air flow. For efficient blasting, it is not a case of “more is better”, but rather the correct metering between the blast media and air. Too little abrasive does not provide the optimum performance and a lower surface performance. Too much abrasive, on the other hand, blocks the flow of abrasive and reduces the speed of the air flow, as well as wasting abrasive unnecessarily. The correct dosage for the particular abrasive must therefore always be ensured. This can be recognized by a slight discoloration at the nozzle outlet, similar to a candle flame.
Clemco has various abrasive metering valves in its product portfolio, each serving different purposes. Here is a list of the most important ones:
FSV metering valve: Easy handling via a regulating slider. It is particularly robust and therefore ideal for outdoor use, e.g. on construction sites.

Quantum K (QK) metering valve: In comparison to the FSV valve, this metering valve has an adjustment wheel that can be used for particularly fine metering. Due to its design, it is also especially designed for aggressive and fine abrasives.

PT metering valve: This valve has an adjustable wheel for dosing the abrasive and is pneumatically operated. It is coupled to the hand lever and the compressed air and only opens when it is activated by compressed air, otherwise the valve is closed. On the one hand, this saves abrasive and, on the other hand, the pot can also be used to blow off the blasted object with pure compressed air. It is also ideal for automatic blasting processes that require an even flow of blast media.
